Essential Information

We hope we’ve covered anything you might want to know here below about team visits and how to organise one.  Please do contact us via the link below and we can arrange to call you to discuss your group’s needs.  

We respectfully ask all team leaders and liaisons to be aware that we have a very small voluntary admin team that deals with all aspects of the charity’s operation, including CSR reservations. At busy times or times of short-staffing it may take us up to 5 working days to respond to your initial contact. Please do bear with us and plan well in advance to ensure you can secure the dates you need.

Dates & Times

We are open Mondays to Fridays from 7am to 3pm.  Hours are flexible by prior arrangement, and some groups just visit for the morning, from 8 / 9am until 12pm.  Dates are booked on a first come first served basis, and we recommend that you plan your visit with your group well in advance.  We prefer groups of no more than 5, but we can take 10 at a stretch.  If you are a large team, you are welcome to book multiple dates, or a block of dates together.

Activities

A typical morning will include prepping vegetables, making cakes and savouries, recycling waste, washing pots and storage boxes, loading prepared food for distribution.  We serve food from 12pm to 3pm and there are 2 spaces daily for volunteers to travel with us on the van to distribute meals to our service users in Camden and Kings Cross.  It is also possible to assist in serving free meals at the university campuses we visit, by prior arrangement.

Costs & Contributions

This is a free opportunity, and we do not expect or require any payment or set donation.  However, we do encourage teams to consider making a small collection of cash and/or food donations to bring on the day.  We are always in need of butter and sugar, although fresh vegetables and fruit are also welcomed (preferably not wrapped in plastic, e.g. packet salads).  Please note that we don’t use mushrooms, onions or garlic in our cookery. 

Booking Process

Contact us to arrange a call to discuss your group’s needs, and use our online booking calendar to view date availability.  Once you have identified the date(s) you would like us to reserve, contact us to make a booking.  We will then require a designated member of your team to be responsible for distributing important advance info about the day to all of your team members.  This will include directions to the kitchen and essential health & safety rules.

Travelling To The Kitchen

Full directions and a map are available on the front page of this site and should be easy to access via mobile for team visitors on their way to us on the day of your visit.  The kitchen is just off Farringdon Street near the Holborn Viaduct.  The nearest stations are Farringdon, Chancery Lane, Blackfriars and City Thameslink, no more than 10 minutes walk away.  There are also a number of Santander Cycle Hire docking stations in the vicinity.

Health & Safety On The Day

We are a busy working kitchen with a 5 star FSA grade and an excellent health & safety record.  We expect all team leaders / liaisons to ensure that, before your visit, every team member has fully acquainted themselves with the health & safety information that will be provided to the primary contact at the time of booking.  No-one will be asked to do tasks they are not comfortable with, and we encourage all visitors to bring up any health & safety concerns with us immediately.
